Calling All Babywearers

Boycott these sons of bitches.

They’re owned by Johnson & Johnson. Stop giving them your money. I don’t care that Motrin has posted an “apology” on its website. They shouldn’t have run the ad in the first place.

Tagged!

-B- over at Rhymes with Dana has tagged me, so I’m here to give you seven (7) things I learned the first month as a mother.

1 — Passing out on the couch while nursing is NOT a bad thing. It’s also not always voluntary.

2 — Seeing my gruff, manly husband melt into the most sensitive and attentive father imaginable is one of the most beautiful things on earth.

3 — Boobs will never be the same after the milk comes in, no matter where it goes from there.

4 — Skin glue instead of stitches or staples is supposedly better. Still weird to have a man’s arm inserted into me up to his elbow in order to pull my son out, no matter how you close me up afterward.

5 — Water is ALL important to breastfeeding. I must have drank the volume of the Great Lakes those first few months to stay hydrated.

6 — Coming face to face with the little alien who had been kicking and nudging you for months is more incredible and loving and life-altering than words can describe.

7 — Spontaneous fits of anxiety are going to be par for the course. You have been given a tiny little life to take care of absolutely, through every imaginable circumstance. It’s okay to let yourself be overwhelmed from time to time. Ride the hormone wave. It will pass.

All of these things were fabulous to learn, and I can’t wait to go through them all again with Milla!

I hereby tag Jen at Raising Lovies, Trin at Kaffee, Kimchi, and Me, Karo at Joon Toons, and Amy at Reconciling Dreams & Mediocrity.

Softy Goodness

Homemade hand salve.

Leaves skin SO soft. And totally customizable. (Is customizable a word?)

Herb-infused olive oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and essential oils. And, in my personal little tub separate from the boys’, some perfume oil.

John’s hands are so dry and cracked, and JR has some eczema behind his knees. John doesn’t like floofy smelling products, and really who can blame him. Too many additives & it wouldn’t be good for JR’s eczema. So I made our own.

It’s cooling in jars right now.

I put some on my hands & elbows, and WOW. This may be all I use from here on out. And I can use it on JR’s tushie, too.

Awesome.

So precious

JR never ceases to amaze me.

Daddy and I were in an absolute state of bliss last night when, out of nowhere, JR started laughing in his sleep. This went on for a couple minutes. Hearty belly laughs, with a huge smile on his face. Completely asleep.

Oh, what I would give to see his beautiful baby dreams.

Follow-up from Saturday night…

…the boy still won’t sleep. It’s godawful infuriating. And being pg/hormonal I’m impatient already, so lack of sleep and personal time is wearing my nerves thin.

These two-year molars better make their appearance damn soon, because this teething crap has gone on long enough.

They should just be born with teeth.

No More Suspense

I’ll just tell you already what we’re having, or show you, rather:

She’s due February 20, 2009! We are SO excited!

News

We know what we’re having. :-D

Toddler Milestone

It happened on Saturday.

JR asked me, “Why?” With definite sass in his tone.

Twice.

I was speechless. John laughed, moreso at me.

And now I don’t even remember what I was telling him beforehand. He hasn’t said it again since, yet.

Not yet. I know it’s coming.

Holy Toddlerdom!

My baby is two! How did that happen so quickly?

He got cake on his birthday — Daddy cut it and served up some pieces for us. JR decided that he didn’t want a piece. He took the plate that had the rest of the cake on it. It was his birthday, we let him have it, and he wound up covered from head to toe in chocolate frosting. He loved it.

He insists on doing everything himself. He reads books all the time (and by read I mean he points at pictures, names them, makes whatever sound they make, and repeats). He can count to 14. He knows the alphabet song, and can recognize a handful of letters. He can sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Pat A Cake” and is trying to learn the hand gestures for “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” He’s 3 feet tall, over 35#, wearing 3T-4T clothing, says “thank you” for everything, reminds us to say grace at meals, reminds us to say prayers at bedtime, is starting to say “please” for things, loves to color (crayons and markers must be supervised if he gets to use them at all or he’ll color on the walls and appliances), and is generally the sweetest, most curious little guy we know.

Oh, and he has a new phrase: “I know.” Yep. Daddy and I will be hearing that one for the rest of our lives. “Please help me” is another funny phrase that pops up from time to time.

Yesterday he was looking at my belly, and I said, “There’s a baby in there.” He looked at me like I was absolutely crazy, but decided to indulge his insane mother by saying, “Oh! Hi baby!” Then he looked at me again with this surety that I was just nuts. It was cute.

He’s the greatest little boy around, and it’s such a joy watching him turn into such a sweet, smart, considerate little man.

Holy Special Days, batman!

JR is going to be TWO YEARS OLD on Saturday!!!!

Someone tell me how my baby got so big so quickly!!!

Here’s a picture of him, brand new:
