Silent Infidelity

What do you tell yourself
Late at night laying in the quiet
Staring alternately at the ceiling
And the woman sleeping beside you
Was it just a weak moment
Did I remind you of her
Was I the escape from it all
From the unhappiness and resentment
And I loved you then for a feeling
An alignment a rightness between us
Stripped almost as quickly
What that walk must have been for you
Accepting distorted images of a dream
Once shared but long forgotten
Rejecting the so-clear vision of me
But you see me now and then
When you stare alternately at the ceiling
And the woman sleeping beside you
And just like me you wonder
If our golden moment passed us by
Or if there may yet be another moment
After the silent night is over.
